Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), established in 1977 following the dissolution of the East African Railways Corporation, serves as Uganda's primary railway system, reporting to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The corporation's mission is to establish and manage reliable, efficient, and safe railway and marine transport services in East Africa to foster sustainable economic and social development. URC oversees a network spanning approximately 1,266 kilometers, including operational sections like the Malaba–Jinja–Kampala main line (251 km), and lines connecting Kampala to Port Bell and Nalukolongo. Despite historical challenges such as civil unrest and infrastructure degradation, URC has made significant strides in revamping services, notably relaunching cargo operations to Tanzania's Port of Dar es Salaam after a decade-long hiatus.

Job Description
Train Controller is responsible for efficient and effective supervision and giving orders on trains working and movement at stations in line with URC Operating Procedures, reporting to the Supervisor Command and Control Officer.

How to Apply
Supervise and give orders on trains working and movement at stations
Recording train timings on train charts
Receiving and reporting incidents and accidents to departmental officers concerned and keep records
Arranging and organizing of clearance of accidents/incidents etc
Update trains in the system visa vie the charts
Coordinate with other control office in sister networks for smooth movement of assets
Plans and implements safe trains movement and to the most economic benefit of the organization
Coordinate train movement on the URC network, linking the movement to that on adjacent networks to achieve the most optimum assets utilization and service delivery possible
Plans and monitors the movement of vessels plying the major ports of call on Lake
Coordinates and follows up activities with other operating departments in case of incidents/accidents on line or otherwise for quick restoration and recovery
Monitors the stock levels of all resources i.e. wagons, locos, fuel and operating staff across the entire network
Monitors trains movement’s quality and ensures that delays at stations, sections and at Depots are minimized
Ensures that all safe train movement requirements are in place i.e. along the line, station yards, locos, wagons etc. and reports to the relevant section/ department accordingly
Passes on instructions, disseminates information as may be required by the Head of Operations
Coordinates with other control officers in the sister network for smooth running of trains and assets.
Any other duties as may be assigned by the entire supervisory team

Must have a minimum of a Diploma in Business or Business related, or ICT.
Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical skills, proficiency in MS Office and operational software.
Exposure to signaling systems is an added advantage
