Job Description
Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist (4 Fresher Jobs)

Job Location: Kisubi, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assessment of Patient assessment
Evaluates and documents clients’ therapy needs and progress.
Refer clients to the respective specialists for consultation and appropriate intervention.
Treatment Function
Work with clients on a one-to-one basis, group, community or special setting based on their levels of function and severity of disability.
Provide speech and language therapy consultation, support and update about the clients’ progress and status to caregivers and all those involved in the rehabilitation team.
Training patients and attendants on the use of speech and language therapy methods.
Participates in ward rounds to communicate treatment plans and supports the medical team in providing holistic patient centered care.
Identify the need for and liaise with the Team to facilitate referral to external specialties e.g. ENT / Audiology.
Actively facilitate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessment where necessary.
Multidisciplinary team function
Provides support to the medical multidisciplinary team by providing physiotherapy- based assessment of the patient’s physical conditions.
Ensures the patient needs and progress is communicated to other members of the medical multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
Refer clients to the respective specialists for consultation and appropriate intervention.
Attends the medical multidisciplinary team reviews as appropriate.
Medical Recordkeeping function
Actively participates in developing and or updating condition specific rehabilitation protocols.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive treatment notes keeping a clinical record of treatment interventions.
Occupational Health & Safety
To work in such a way that does not cause injury to yourself, other staff members or customers.
Following & complying with Health &Safety policies, processes & applying them to one’s work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.
Continuing Education:
Stay current with the latest advancements in therapy practices through continuing education and professional development.
Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives.
Financial Management
Managing and accounting for allocated resources especially the consumables by compiling and submitting relevant reports.
Ensuring adherence to the unit budget to ensure optimal use of resources
Risk Management
Evaluating the patient’s medical history, the potential benefits of the procedure, and the associated risks.
Continuously assesses risk inherent in department and ensure adherence to mitigation measures in place
Compliance
Adhering to high ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality is paramount.
Adhere to all CoRSU policies
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A Bachelor in Speech and Language Therapy from a recognized institution Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional’s Council.
Knowledge.
Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
Skills
Strong clinical skills and knowledge of therapeutic techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience
Three (3) Years experience clinical experience in rehabilitation settings.
Competencies Required:

Excellent interpersonal skills.
Leadership
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment
