Job Description
The Logistics Health & Safety Officer will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient logistics operations across transportation, warehousing, loading/offloading and material handling processes. The officer will implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies, conduct risk assessments, train staff, and ensure adherence to national regulations and company HSE standards to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor logistics health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures and guidelines.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety inspections for logistics facilities, transport fleets, and loading/offloading activities.
- Ensure compliance with Ugandan occupational health and road safety regulations as well as company and international HSE standards.
- Monitor driver and fleet safety performance, enforce journey management rules, and promote safe driving practices.
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents; prepare reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Train logistics staff, drivers, and contractors on HSE procedures, PPE usage, safe handling of materials, and emergency response protocols.
- Maintain safety records, incident databases, and HSE documentation including reports and statutory requirements.
- Support ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other safety management system implementation initiatives.
- Promote a positive safety culture, awareness, and continuous improvement in logistics operations.
