About the Project – PULMq-TB (Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS)

The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health – National TB/Leprosy Division (NTLD), is implementing the PULMq-TB Project, supported by the Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS through the Introducing New Tools Project (iNTP).

The project is deploying the Ultra-Portable MinXray Impact System with Qure.ai’s qXR software to scale up community-based TB screening among high-risk populations in urban and peri-urban areas, including selected districts in the Karamoja sub-region. In addition to TB screening, the project includes a nutrition supplementation component to prevent TB progression among household contacts of TB patients, particularly children.

To support this critical work, IDI is seeking three (3) qualified Nutrition Assistants to join the implementation team.


Position Purpose

The Nutrition Assistants will support the delivery of high-quality, community-based nutrition services to TB-affected households in Abim, Nabilatuk, and Nakapiripirit districts. Working under the guidance of the Nutritionist, they will play a vital role in implementing the nutrition supplementation component in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing and adapting data tools for capturing nutrition information within the project’s M&E framework.

  • Support translation and dissemination of nutrition education materials in local languages.

  • Help determine appropriate food rations and ensure proper distribution to eligible households.

  • Participate in community mobilization and education on TB and nutrition.

  • Support the orientation of community health structures to facilitate local delivery of nutrition services.

  • Provide basic nutrition assessments and counseling to patients and household members.

  • Identify and refer individuals needing specialized nutrition care.

  • Strengthen household-level nutrition education and adherence to feeding programs.

  • Liaise with district nutrition and community development teams to ensure coordination with existing food security programs.

  • Monitor the implementation of nutrition activities and provide regular reports.

  • Support documentation of lessons learned and success stories.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Nutritionist or Project Coordinator.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Clinical and Community Nutrition, Food Science and Nutrition, or Human Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council is mandatory.


Key Competencies

  • Solid knowledge of nutrition and community health service delivery.

  • Experience working with TB-affected populations or similar public health programs is desirable.

  • Ability to engage with community stakeholders and health teams effectively.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
