Project Overview

The USAID Local Partner Health Services – Kigezi & Lango (LPHS-K&L) Activity is a five-year initiative implemented by JCRC. The Activity aims to strengthen the delivery of integrated, high-quality HIV and TB services across 16 districts and one city in the Kigezi and Lango regions. The project also temporarily supports lifesaving activities in the Ankole and Acholi regions to enhance access to care and treatment.

Job Purpose

The Sample Transporter will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transport of medical samples, test results, and laboratory supplies between health facilities and designated hub laboratories or point-of-care (POC) sites within supported districts.

How to Apply

  • Ensure daily and weekly scheduled sample pickups and result deliveries between facilities, hubs, POC sites, and post offices.

  • Maintain accurate records of all movements, including samples transported, results delivered, motorbike usage, and maintenance.

  • Keep inventory of all assigned equipment (e.g., motorbike, phone).

  • Monitor and report the condition of the motorbike and ensure timely servicing and maintenance.

  • Ensure proper security and safety of the motorbike during all operations.

  • Adhere to all national road safety regulations and maintain a valid riding permit.

  • Maintain confidentiality and neutrality when handling patient samples and test results.

  • Respond promptly to facility requests and support sample transportation as needed.

  • Follow SOPs and documentation procedures for sample and result handling.

  • Support distribution of commodities such as drugs, lab supplies, testing kits, and periodic reports to health facilities.

  • Assist with External Quality Assessment (EQA) sample and feedback result delivery.

  • Prepare and submit accurate weekly reports to the Hub Coordinator.

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols during sample handling.

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Valid motorcycle riding permit (Class A).

  • At least 3 years of riding experience (sample or delivery transport preferred).

  • Defensive riding certificate is an added advantage.

  • Basic training in laboratory techniques is desirable.

  • Familiarity with safe sample transportation guidelines and biosafety standards.

  • High level of integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently in field-based environments.
