Job Description

The Public Relations & Local Government Liaison Officer will be responsible for creating and managing Kijani Forestry’s public relations strategies, including maintaining relations with local governments, cultural, and community leaders. The role involves planning and executing communication campaigns, managing media engagements, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Additionally, the officer will support project management and community outreach, fostering positive public perception and sustainable partnerships.

How to Apply

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Communications Strategy that aligns with Kijani’s objectives.

  • Plan and manage public relations and media engagements, including crafting press releases and newsletters.

  • Maintain Kijani’s website and social media platforms, keeping them updated with relevant content.

  • Represent Kijani at community and district-level functions to enhance visibility.

  • Communicate project activities to stakeholders, ensuring consistent and positive messaging.

  • Ensure compliance with local government policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with both appointed and elected leaders in Local Governments.

  • Develop Annual Work Plans in alignment with local government planning.

  • Facilitate integration of Kijani’s projects into local government plans.

  • Prepare Quarterly and Annual Reports on project activities for each Local Government.

  • Represent Kijani at Local Government Sector Meetings and functions.

  • Build strong relationships with community groups, cultural and religious leaders.

  • Promote community support for Kijani’s activities and programs.

  • Address community needs and integrate them into Kijani’s strategic plans.

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive Quarterly and Annual Reports on activities and progress.

  • Monitor communication strategies and recommend improvements.

  • Assist the CEO with tasks that support strategic objectives.

  • Stay informed of local government policies and community dynamics.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in public relations, community relations, or local government liaison roles.

  • Proven experience working with local governments, community groups, and cultural leaders.

  • Experience in project management, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media management tools.

  • Knowledge of local government structures and policies in Uganda.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Integrity and professionalism.

  • Adaptability and proactive problem-solving.
