We’re currently seeking a Workshop Manager to oversee our fleet maintenance operations in Uganda.

Position Overview

As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our transport workshop. This includes overseeing preventive maintenance, spare parts management, procurement, workshop administration, and ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental (QHSE) standards. You will play a crucial role in minimizing downtime and cost while maximizing the availability and efficiency of our fleet.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure minimal equipment downtime.

  • Lead workshop administration and utilize systems such as MAXIMO for effective management.

  • Maintain accurate inventory control and aim for zero stock variance.

  • Manage local and international procurement of parts and services with a focus on cost-effectiveness.

  • Produce and submit timely, data-driven reports on workshop performance.

  • Provide technical support and insights to the Transport Manager and wider logistics team.

  • Oversee petty cash management, local purchase orders (LPOs), and enforce strict cost control procedures.

  • Uphold high standards of QHSE and general housekeeping in the workshop.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a workshop, transport, or automotive environment.

  • Training or qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is highly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of workshop systems, spare parts, and inventory management.

  • Computer literate with proficiency in tools such as Excel and workshop management software.

  • Fluent in English with strong communication and reporting skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing workshop or technical teams.

  • Familiarity with URA Customs procedures and fleet management systems (preferably Telematix).

  • Experience managing a fleet of 20 or more trucks is essential.
