Job Description
Serves as one of three (3) Welders in Facilities Maintenance Section (FAC) responsible for all Metal fabrication works and welding repairs, maintenance and installation equipment and structures in government owned office building or leased properties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or specifications to determine the required welds.
Selecting and preparing welding equipment and materials, including electrodes, filler metals, and shielding gases.
Cleaning and preparing the surfaces to be welded, removing any rust, dirt, or contaminants.
Setting up and securing workpieces, fixtures, or assemblies in the correct position for welding.
Using various welding techniques such as arc welding, MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, or oxy-fuel welding to join metal components.
Monitoring the welding process to ensure proper penetration, fusion, and quality of the welds.
Adjusting welding parameters such as voltage, current, and travel speed to achieve desired results.
Inspecting welded joints for defects such as cracks, porosity, or incomplete fusion, and making necessary repairs or adjustments.
Operating cutting equipment such as plasma torches, oxy-acetylene torches, or cutting saws to trim or prepare materials for welding.
Following safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and protective clothing to prevent injury and exposure to hazards like fumes, sparks, and radiation.
Qualifications and Competencies
EDUCATION:
Completion of elementary school is required.
Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman mechanic skills or equivalent experience is required.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of journeyman welding experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must have full journeyman welding knowledge of established practices and procedures of the welding trade.
Evaluations: (This may be tested)
LANGUAGE:
English level II (Limited knowledge) Written/Speaking/Reading is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to use all tools of the trade and must have a valid driver’s license for a combination of vehicles
Qualifications:
