Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI) is a center of excellence for Lung Health in the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. Our mission is lung health research that integrates disease prevention, clinical care, and training in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Institute has received funding in its Clinical Trials Unit from LMU Klinikum, University College London, and John Hopkins University to conduct clinical trials titled “ A multiple arm, multiple stage (MAMS), phase 2B/C, open label, randomized, controlled platform trial to evaluate experimental arms including an increased dose of rifampicin, an optimized dose of pyrazinamide, moxifloxacin and sutezolid, in adult subjects with newly diagnosed, smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis (STEP 2C)”; “Platform Assessing Regimens And Durations In a Global Multisite consortium for TB (PARADIGM4TB)” and Bedaquiline Roll-out Evidence in Contacts and People Living With HIV to prevent TB (BREACH-TB) respectively. The studies aim to identify newer, shorter, safer, and more efficacious innovations for the prevention and treatment of drug-susceptible and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
