Job Title: Technical Assistant – Agribusiness

Duty Station: Mbale, Uganda
Job Summary:
To ensure the effective and timely implementation of REEF project field activities through hands-on operational, logistical, and monitoring support. Serve as the primary link between the project and farmer groups, driving the successful delivery of farmer trainings, FL-RS demonstrations, and data collection.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Field Operations:
Assist with logistical planning and on-the-ground implementation of field activities, including farmer training, FL-RS demonstrations, and community awareness campaigns.
Manage local coordination for field events, including confirming training venues, engaging local leaders, mobilizing farmer beneficiaries, and organizing partner logistics.
Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, suppliers, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
Technical Support:
Assist the technical partners in setting up, conducting, and maintaining practical field demonstrations of Food Loss Reduction Solutions (FL-RS)
Provide logistical support to VBAs, collect their reports, and assist with field monitoring of their performance
Collect routine field data, profile beneficiaries, conduct follow-up surveys, and verify FL-RS adoption to ensure accurate reporting
Partnership and Administration Support:
Document, organize, and archive all field-level materials, including training attendance sheets, beneficiary lists, partner communication logs, and activity photos/videos.
Compile field activity reports summarizing key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned to support in preparing timely project reports.
Coordinate and participate in stakeholder and partners’ meetings.
Project Finance Management
Comply with project financial controls and all laid out operational procedures.
Ensure the value for money principle is observed throughout project implementation.
Expected Outputs
Accurate and verified lists of farmer participants for all trainings and demonstrations, disaggregated by gender and youth status.
Well-organized and accessible field documentation, including attendance sheets, beneficiary lists, partner logs, and activity photos/videos.
Timely and detailed reports on field events, capturing logistics, participation, and immediate outcomes
Consolidated and verified activity reports, attendance logs, and technology promotion data collected from Village-Based Agents.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in General Agriculture, Agribusiness, or a related field.
At least 3 years of practical experience in agricultural or rural development projects, with significant fieldwork and community engagement
Postgraduate qualification or specialized training in Project Management, Value Chain Development, or Post-Harvest Technology is an added advantage.
Competencies Required
Excellent planning, time management, and organizational abilities, with attention to detail for managing logistics and field budgets
Ability to work independently in remote and challenging field environments and consistently execute assigned tasks
Strong interpersonal and verbal skills to interact effectively with farmers, local leaders, and partners
Basic proficiency with mobile tools for data collection (tablets/smartphones) and computer skills (Word, Excel) for reporting
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong understanding of agricultural practices, especially maize and beans, and post-harvest handling.
