TB Contact tracing officer (Acholi & Lango regions) job at Center for the Health, Human Rights & Development (CEHURD)

The TB Contact Tracing Officer will work with the Facility- Based Health Workers and Community Health Workers attached to the TB (Tuberculosis) Diagnostic & Treatment Units (TDU) to carry out contact tracing visits to confirmed TB cases and ensure that TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) is provided to those that are eligible as spelt out in the Operations Guidelines for TB Contact Investigation (2019). The goal of the Contact Tracing Officer position is to increase detection and treatment/cure rates as well as reduce transmission rates of TB.

  • Contact identification: Work closely with healthcare providers and TB patients to identify individuals who may have been exposed to TB bacteria through close contact with an infectious TB patient.

  • Locating contacts: Use various methods to locate and reach out to identified contacts, including phone calls, home visits, and coordination with community leaders or organizations.

  • Assessment and screening: Conduct thorough assessments and screenings of identified contacts to determine their TB exposure risk and whether they have developed active TB disease or latent TB infection.

  • Education and counseling: Provide education and counseling to contacts about TB transmission, symptoms, prevention, and treatment options. Address any concerns or misconceptions they may have about TB.

  • Referral and testing: Facilitate referrals for TB testing, including sputum smear microscopy, chest X-rays, and other diagnostic tests, as appropriate. Ensure that contacts receive timely testing and follow-up care.

  • Follow-up: Monitor contacts throughout the TB diagnostic and treatment process, ensuring adherence to testing protocols and treatment regimens. Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and follow-up as needed.

  • Data collection and reporting: Maintain accurate records of contact tracing activities, including contact information, screening results, testing outcomes, and treatment outcomes. Compile and report data to relevant healthcare authorities and TB control programs.

  • Collaboration and coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers, community health workers, local authorities, and other stakeholders involved in TB control efforts. Coordinate efforts to ensure comprehensive and effective contact tracing and TB control strategies.

  • Community outreach: Conduct community outreach activities to raise awareness about TB, promote early detection and treatment-seeking behavior, and engage community members in TB prevention and control efforts.

  • Training and capacity building: Participate in training programs and capacity-building activities to enhance knowledge and skills related to TB contact tracing, infection control, and public health interventions.
