Job Description
The Supermarket Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of retail operations, including staff leadership, financial management, inventory control, customer satisfaction, and compliance with safety and health regulations. The role requires a hands-on leader who can balance operational efficiency with customer service excellence, while fostering team growth and delivering on revenue and profitability goals.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operations Management
Oversee daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Manage inventory levels, stock rotation, and product placement.
Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for timely deliveries.
Implement and maintain store policies and procedures.
Monitor and optimize store layout for maximum efficiency and sales.
Team Leadership
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise department managers and staff.
Create and manage work schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
Handle employee relations issues and disciplinary actions as needed.
Lead by example in customer service and professional conduct.
Financial Management
Develop and manage store budgets and financial targets.
Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to increase revenue.
Control operational costs while maintaining quality standards.
Analyze financial reports and key performance indicators.
Ensure accurate cash handling and implement loss prevention procedures.
Collaborate with corporate finance on budget planning and reporting.
Customer Service
Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction.
Handle customer complaints and resolve issues promptly.
Ensure store appearance meets company standards.
Implement promotional campaigns and marketing initiatives.
Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements.
Ensure competitive pricing and product availability.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field.
3–5 years of proven retail management experience, preferably in supermarkets or grocery retail.
Demonstrated ability to manage large teams (50+ employees).
Experience with profit and loss management.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Financial acumen and analytical thinking.
Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Proficiency in retail management software and POS systems.
Knowledge of inventory management, merchandising, and food safety regulations.
Flexible schedule availability (including evenings, weekends, and holidays).
Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Salary Range
₦200,000 – ₦300,000 per month
