Job Description
As a Staff Web Engineer at 10up, you’ll take on a leadership role within the Engineering team, owning the technical vision and delivery of high-impact, large-scale projects. You'll be responsible for developing WordPress plugins and themes using PHP and React.js (including Gutenberg blocks and Next.js), guiding clients and stakeholders through technical planning, and mentoring other engineers. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to internal initiatives and support the sales team with technical insight. This role is suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic, remote-first culture and is passionate about improving digital experiences for millions of users.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop enterprise-level WordPress plugins and themes using PHP and React.js
Lead the implementation of React Architecture and headless projects using Next.js
Define and own the technical strategy on large projects
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure quality and alignment
Engage directly with clients to gather requirements and provide technical leadership
Participate in client demos and technical discussions
Mentor and support other engineers on your team
Assist the sales team with project estimates and technical planning
Contribute to internal engineering leadership and initiatives
Attend and contribute to digital or in-person company summits

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
2+ years in a Lead Engineer or Engineering Leadership role
Strong experience with WordPress engineering (PHP, React.js, Gutenberg)
Expertise in React Architecture and Next.js for headless implementations
Demonstrated ability to lead large enterprise-level web development projects
Experience with performance and caching issue debugging
Strong interpersonal and client communication skills
Comfortable working in a fully distributed team across time zones
A portfolio with links to WordPress/engineering work (GitHub preferred)
Preferred Competencies:
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Ability to simplify complex technical challenges
Passion for web performance and modern web development practices
