About the Organisation
Equity Bank Uganda Limited, is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator.
Equity Bank is one of the fastest growing banks in Uganda, with a large network of 50 branches, 7,000+ EquiDuukas, 1,279 POS Terminal and 50+ ATMs spread across the country. 25 of these branches are located in Central and greater Kampala, serving over 1,800,000 customers. The Bank has deployed a number of Alternate Business Channels to enhance its product and service delivery. These include: Internet Banking, Eazzy 247- a mobile banking service, Point of Sales (POS) machines as well as partnerships with major telecom companies.
The Bank has adopted the Group approach of financial inclusion by opening its doors to customers across the financial pyramid. On the back of the Group technological advances, Equity Uganda is now recognized as a key enabler to driving inclusion and innovation through strategic partnerships with telecoms, utility companies, local government, religious bodies, and third- tier financial institutions.

Job Description
To drive the strategic agenda for SME & Retail Banking Sector through Customer Acquisition & Retention: Balance Sheet growth, Maintenance of a high quality Asset portfolio and Development of SME & Retail Products in line with the overall bank's business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Segment Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to target and serve the SME market segment. Define the segment's objectives, goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with overall business objectives.
Market Analysis and Research: Conduct market analysis and research to understand the needs, preferences, and behaviors of SME customers. Identify market trends, opportunities, and challenges to inform segment strategy and decision-making.
Product and Service Development: Collaborate with product development teams to design, customize, and enhance products and services tailored to the needs of SME customers. Introduce innovative solutions, features, and value-added services to differentiate offerings and attract SME clients.
Customer Acquisition and Growth: Develop and execute customer acquisition strategies to attract new SME clients and expand market share. Identify target customer segments, prospect leads, and generate sales leads through marketing campaigns, events, and partnerships.
Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with SME clients, key stakeholders, and industry partners. Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, requests, and escalations, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
Credit Risk Management: Assess and manage credit risk associated with SME lending and financial services. Evaluate creditworthiness, financial stability, and repayment capacity of SME clients, and establish risk mitigation measures and credit policies to minimize losses.
Sales and Revenue Generation: Set sales targets, revenue goals, and performance metrics for the SME segment. Develop sales strategies, tactics, and incentives to drive revenue growth, cross-selling, and upselling of products and services to SME clients.
Team Leadership and Development: Lead and manage a team of relationship managers, sales executives, and support staff dedicated to serving the SME segment. Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to develop team skills, capabilities, and performance.
Compliance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies governing SME banking and financial services. Adhere to regulatory frameworks such as Basel III, KYC (Know Your Customer), AML (Anti-Money Laundering), and GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor segment performance, sales results, and key metrics to track progress against targets and objectives. Prepare regular performance reports, dashboards, and analyses to communicate segment performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Market Positioning and Branding: Position the organization as a leading provider of SME banking and financial services in the market. Develop and execute marketing strategies, branding initiatives, and promotional campaigns to enhance brand visibility, awareness, and reputation among SME clients.
Business Development and Partnerships: Identify and pursue opportunities for business development, alliances, and partnerships to expand the organization's reach and offerings in the SME market. Collaborate with external partners, fintechs, and industry associations to create value-added solutions and services for SME clients.
Innovation and Digital Transformation: Drive innovation and digital transformation initiatives to enhance the organization's competitiveness and agility in serving SME customers. Leverage technology, data analytics, and digital channels to deliver seamless, personalized, and convenient banking experiences to SME clients.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from a recognized University.
A postgraduate/ master's degree in a Business-related field will be an added advantage.
At least 10-15 years of relevant banking experience, preferably with at least 5 years at a senior managerial position in Corporate banking.
Understanding of the relevant laws, regulations and practices pertaining to Corporate Banking products.
