Job Description
The Principal will oversee daily operations across all school sections, including administrative, academic, and financial activities. Key duties include managing staff, ensuring the implementation of educational policies, budgeting and fundraising, promoting student welfare, leading curriculum delivery, especially in TVET programs, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders including parents, teachers, and education authorities.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration:
Oversee school operations and ensure adherence to policies
Supervise all academic and non-academic activities
Coordinate with Director of Studies and oversee TVET
Financial & Resource Management:
Develop and manage school budgets
Authorize expenditures and supervise resource use
Implement fundraising strategies
Oversee infrastructure maintenance
Staff Management & Development:
Promote staff welfare and manage grievances
Conduct staff performance evaluations
Identify capacity building opportunities, especially for TVET
Student Welfare & Discipline:
Ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment
Address disciplinary issues
Promote counselling and career guidance
Academic Oversight:
Supervise curriculum implementation and compliance
Monitor assessment and reporting processes
Ensure academic quality, especially in TVET programs
Stakeholder Engagement:
Strengthen parent and guardian relations
Organize PTA meetings and open days
Facilitate clear communication channels
Reporting:
Prepare and submit accurate reports to the Operations and Social Business Department, Head of Location, and other partners
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Educational Management, or a relevant technical field (TVET disciplines such as Plumbing, Welding & Metal Fabrication, Carpentry & Joinery, Fashion Design & Tailoring)
Master’s Degree is an added advantage
Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a multi-level school setting (Secondary and/or TVET)
Key Competencies:
Strong understanding of TVET operations and Rwanda’s regulatory frameworks
Budget development and financial management experience
Knowledge of REB and NESA guidelines
Experience in child safeguarding and student welfare promotion
Effective leadership and communication skills
Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and team management abilities
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (French is an added advantage)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and school management systems
