Job Description

Reporting to the Livestock Senior Coordinator, the Poultry Supervisor will manage and guide the day-to-day poultry operations within One Acre Fund’s livestock program. The role involves direct supervision of 4–6 Poultry Officers and 1 Inventory Senior Officer, ensuring that field teams achieve productivity targets and maintain animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
The Supervisor will lead technical training sessions, monitor farm performance metrics, ensure efficient use of resources, and promote best practices in poultry husbandry. The role also includes collecting and analyzing field data, identifying performance gaps, and implementing corrective measures to optimize broiler production outcomes.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise all broiler rearing activities from Day-Old Chick (DOC) placement to harvest, ensuring growth performance meets targets.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, and body weight gains.

  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for animal welfare, biosecurity, and feeding.

  • Oversee the scheduling and management of poultry farm visits by field staff.

  • Ensure farm-level hygiene, biosecurity, and safety protocols are strictly followed.

Team Supervision and Capacity Building

  • Manage, train, and mentor Poultry Officers and the Inventory Senior Officer to deliver quality support to farmers.

  • Conduct quarterly training sessions and ongoing technical coaching to improve staff knowledge and field effectiveness.

  • Conduct periodic performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Monitoring and Data Management

  • Collect and analyze poultry performance data to track production trends.

  • Identify risks or underperformance and recommend corrective action plans.

  • Report on feed usage, health interventions, and mortality patterns to the Livestock Senior Coordinator.

  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting on farm-level operations.

Quality Control and Compliance

  • Conduct routine farm audits to assess compliance with animal health and production standards.

  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of farm tools, equipment, and materials.

  • Coordinate with the livestock and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of inputs and vaccines.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Support communication between the livestock department, procurement, and field operations teams.

  • Provide technical guidance to farmers and collaborate with local veterinary and extension officers where needed.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Education:

  • Diploma in Animal Husbandry, Livestock Production, Veterinary Science, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in livestock or poultry production, preferably broiler rearing.

  • Demonstrated understanding of poultry management practices, including feeding, vaccination, and disease prevention.

  • Experience supervising field teams or farmers in agricultural projects is an added advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic database management tools (e.g., Google Sheets).

  • Knowledge of broiler performance metrics, feed formulation, and biosecurity principles.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
