Job Description
Reporting to the Technology Lead and Country Operations Manager, the QA and Maintenance Engineer will collaborate closely with technical and operational teams to ensure that software platforms function reliably and meet user needs. Key responsibilities include executing detailed test plans for web and mobile applications, identifying bugs, managing updates, and providing IT support. The role also entails ensuring compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, managing backup processes, monitoring vendor performance, and supporting remote teams with technical troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in software testing, system maintenance, and technical support, preferably in a field-based or tech-driven organization.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Platform Testing
Design and execute comprehensive test plans for web and mobile applications.
Identify, document, and track bugs and system anomalies.
Conduct regression testing before every new release.
Collaborate with the Head of Tech and consultants on timely issue resolution.
System and Device Maintenance
Perform routine system performance audits for dashboards, apps, and hardware.
Support implementation of updates, patches, and bug fixes.
Ensure field tech devices (tags, mobile devices) are operational and current.
IT Support and Troubleshooting
Manage tickets and resolve system issues in real-time.
Provide onboarding and deployment support for users and teams.
Coordinate remote technical support with field-based staff.
Data Integrity, Compliance & Backups
Ensure secure and automated data backups.
Run tests for data recovery and flag data inconsistencies.
Monitor compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act and internal IT standards.
Vendor, Tool, and SLA Monitoring
Support procurement and integration of QA and testing tools.
Monitor vendor performance and escalate service delivery issues.
Ensure third-party software meets expected uptime and functionality.
Team Collaboration
Work with the engineering team to review and validate new code.
Support testing of partner-facing platforms such as Zhulia and Shephard.
Monitor real-world system performance in collaboration with product team
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in quality assurance, IT support, or system maintenance.
Prior work in tech-driven or field-based environments is highly desirable.
Technical Skills & Tools:
Proficiency in manual and automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, JIRA, Postman).
Familiarity with mobile devices and hardware maintenance.
Knowledge of data privacy laws and internal IT security standards.
Competencies:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Attention to detail and commitment to system reliability.
