Afro Ark is a youth and women-led organization founded in 2018 to address the intersecting challenges faced by women, girls, and children in Rwanda and across Africa. Guided by the Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2063, and Rwanda’s Vision 2050, Afro Ark promotes gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), protection from gender-based violence, and youth/women’s economic empowerment. The organization works with adolescent girls, teenage mothers, women with disabilities, and women entrepreneurs, advancing rights and opportunities through advocacy, capacity building, and community transformation initiatives. Afro Ark is a consortium partner in the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture in Rwanda (YEA-R) Program, funded by the Mastercard Foundation and led by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.

Job Description
The Project Officer will lead community mobilization, training, and facilitation of youth groups while ensuring that gender equality and social inclusion strategies are effectively implemented. The position involves engaging with community leaders, delivering empowerment sessions, supporting youth leadership initiatives, and ensuring safeguarding standards. The officer will also coordinate with local authorities and program partners, document success stories, and report on project activities, challenges, and lessons learned.

Mobilize youth, women, and persons with disabilities into groups and cooperatives.
Facilitate participatory empowerment sessions using tools such as My Voice My Power.
Engage community leaders, parents, and influencers to strengthen support for youth and women in agribusiness.
Deliver leadership and empowerment training to youth groups.
Train and mentor GESI Champions and ensure knowledge transfer within groups.
Support implementation of GESI strategies in SMEs to ensure inclusive practices.
Organize GESI dialogues engaging men, couples, and community gatekeepers.
Identify and train youth champions on leadership and gender advocacy.
Assist youth groups in documenting success stories and participating in advocacy forums.
Coordinate activities with YAOs, local authorities, and program partners.
Prepare reports with disaggregated data, ensuring gender-sensitive approaches.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Rural Development, Education, Community Development, or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in community mobilization, GESI, youth/women empowerment, or related roles.
Proven ability to conduct training on gender equality and facilitate community activities.
Familiarity with youth-centered rural development programs.
Experience working with women and persons with disabilities in inclusive projects.
Fluency in Kinyarwanda; working knowledge of English required.
Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and teamwork skills.
Willingness to be based in and frequently travel within assigned districts.
Desirable: Experience with participatory approaches such as Human-Centered Design; ability to handle sensitive gender issues and safeguarding concerns.
