Job Description
Project Administrator Bioinformatics
Uganda Research Unit is hiring a Project Administrator Bioinformatics whose role involves managing and coordinating bioinformatics research projects, providing administrative support, and facilitating communication and collaboration within and outside the research group.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Project Management:
Coordinate research project activities, timelines, and deliverables.
Monitor progress and ensure alignment with project goals.
Financial Management:
Prepare and monitor project budgets.
Ensure financial accountability and compliance with funding agency guidelines.
Team Management:
Schedule and facilitate group meetings to discuss progress and challenges.
Document meeting outcomes and follow up on action items.
Operational Strategy and Planning:
Develop strategic operational plans aligned with organizational objectives.
Collaborate with Principal Investigators to prioritize and allocate resources.
Manuscript Preparation and Submission:
Proofread manuscripts and ensure compliance with journal guidelines.
Coordinate manuscript submissions and liaise with authors and journals.
Website and Social Media Management:
Maintain and update the research group’s website.
Manage social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn) to share updates and findings.
Grant Management and Financial Reporting:
Assist in grant preparation, submission, and management.
Coordinate grant finances and reporting, ensuring compliance.
Diary and Group Meetings Management:
Organize schedules, appointments, and group meetings.
Prepare agendas, document minutes, and track action items.
Collaboration Liaison:
Serve as the primary contact for regional and global collaborators.
Facilitate communication within the Unit and with LSHTM activities.
Administrative Support:
Manage paperwork, maintain records, and assist with logistics.
Financial Responsibility:
Ensure proper accountability of project resources per MRC/UVRI & LSHTM guidelines.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Person Specification
Education:
MSc in Bioinformatics (required).
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
GCP (Good Clinical Practice) training.
Experience:
At least 2 years of proven experience in managing research projects and teams (24 months).
Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis techniques.
Familiarity with project management software/tools.
Strong IT and social media management skills.
Knowledge of compliance and ethical considerations in research.
Personal Attributes:
Independence, analytical thinking, proactivity, results orientation, thoroughness.
Concern for excellence, flexibility, service orientation, development orientation.
Additional Details
Work Hours: 8 hours per day
Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum), MSc required
