Job Description
As a Program Officer specializing in Community Engagements, your duties involve coordinating and managing programs aimed at fostering community involvement, participation, and development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development: Design, develop, and implement programs that promote community engagement and participation. This could include initiatives related to education, healthcare, social services, economic development, or environmental sustainability, depending on the organization's objectives and target community needs.
Community Needs Assessment: Conduct assessments and surveys to understand the needs, priorities, and challenges of the target community. Gather input from community members, stakeholders, and local organizations to inform program planning and decision-making.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, local organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with these partners to identify resources, leverage expertise, and maximize the impact of community engagement programs.
Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support community engagement activities. Assign roles and responsibilities, provide guidance and support, and ensure that volunteers are motivated and engaged in their work.
Event Planning and Coordination: Organize and coordinate community events, workshops, forums, and other activities designed to engage residents and promote community cohesion. Manage logistics, secure venues, coordinate speakers or presenters, and oversee event execution.
Community Outreach and Communication: Develop communication strategies to promote community engagement programs and activities. Utilize various channels such as social media, newsletters, websites, and community meetings to reach residents and raise awareness about opportunities for involvement.
Capacity Building: Facilitate capacity-building initiatives within the community to empower residents and local organizations. Provide training, workshops, and resources on topics such as leadership development, project management, and advocacy to build community skills and capabilities.
Evaluation and Monitoring: Establish performance metrics and evaluation criteria to assess the effectiveness and impact of community engagement programs. Collect data, conduct surveys, and analyze feedback to measure outcomes, identify successes and areas for improvement, and inform program adjustments.
Advocacy and Partnership Development: Advocate for community interests and mobilize support for key issues or initiatives. Identify opportunities for collaboration with external partners, including government agencies, NGOs, businesses, and academic institutions, to advance community development goals.
Crisis Response and Support: Provide support and assistance to the community during times of crisis or emergencies. Coordinate with relevant agencies and organizations to address immediate needs, ensure access to essential services, and facilitate recovery efforts.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in social work and social administration or Social Science or Arts or Management or Community Psychology with a recognized bias in Social Work field such as Psychology or Community Health. A Master's degree in Public Health, Sociology, community health or related discipline.
At least 5 years of professional experience, 3 years of which should have been served in the health sector.
Familiarity with the GOU's health systems and community health system strategies
