Job Description
Based in Cape Town and reporting to the Account Manager/Senior Account Manager, the PR Senior Account Executive will serve as a media relations expert responsible for developing tailored media lists, pitching story angles, and securing coverage. The role will involve drafting press releases, media pitches, and client reports while ensuring accurate and timely delivery. The position includes active participation in newsroom meetings, project management of campaigns, and mentoring junior staff. The Executive will also build client relationships, contribute creative ideas, provide competitor insights, and ensure alignment with MSL’s values and operational standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain and update media lists; ensure tailored lists per client content.
Develop and manage solid media relationships; run team media relations processes.
Identify, write, and pitch story angles creatively to targeted media.
Write media-ready content including releases, pitches, and reports.
Conduct research and present findings to support PR strategies.
Participate in newsroom meetings; prepare and share client-relevant news.
Assist with end-to-end management of specific projects and campaigns.
Track and report media coverage; deliver accurate monthly reports.
Support client servicing through regular communication, reporting, and feedback.
Mentor interns and junior team members, fostering skill development.
Ensure compliance with time recording (Chase) and agency deadlines.
Build professional client and industry relationships to drive account success.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Public Relations (required).
Corporate brand experience preferred.
Experience
Minimum 3 years in a PR agency; advertising agency experience advantageous.
Corporate and/or financial services account experience is beneficial.
Skills & Competencies
Strong media relations knowledge and network.
Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Strong reporting, organizational, and project management skills.
Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
Creativity and initiative in idea generation and problem-solving.
Professional etiquette, self-starter mindset, and proactive upskilling.
