Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of parks, horticulture, and cemetery services within the assigned region. This includes planning, budgeting, performance monitoring, and coordinating horticultural and environmental activities. The role involves overseeing cemeteries, crematoria, decorative parks, playgrounds, nature reserves, and biodiversity programs, while ensuring compliance with national and municipal legislation. The Deputy Director will also lead urban forestry initiatives, promote conservation, and ensure occupational health and safety standards are adhered to. The position requires strong leadership, innovation, and project management skills to maintain sustainable urban green environments.

How to Apply
Direct, monitor, and control personnel to maintain productivity and performance.
Monitor and manage the section’s budget to align income and expenditure with Council requirements.
Establish communication and administrative systems to coordinate section activities.
Participate in divisional plans, monitoring, and evaluation processes; prepare reports and scorecards.
Establish, manage, regulate, and maintain cemeteries and crematoria.
Provide and maintain decorative and recreational parks, including play parks.
Conduct horticultural maintenance of traffic islands, boulevards, squares, sport facilities, cemeteries, crematoria, and resorts.
Manage biodiversity and urban nature conservation operations.
Oversee nature reserves, bird sanctuaries, and protected areas in line with the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003.
Manage maintenance of parks, children’s play equipment, traffic islands, and City facilities.
Lead horticultural services including grass cutting, urban forestry, garden, and plant services.
Manage financial and administrative responsibilities of the section.
Implement and oversee an effective occupational health and safety management system.
An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (National Diploma or Degree) in Horticulture.
At least 8 years’ relevant experience in a horticultural environment.
Supervisory/management experience will be an added advantage.
A valid Code B driving licence.
Computer literacy.
Must undergo a criminal record check and consent to fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (at own cost).
