Ginger SOFRECO has been invited to tender for a World Bank funded project with the Ministry of Water and Environment as the client. The objective of the assignment is to design and manage a performance-based forestry subsidy scheme to encourage private sector-led establishment of forest plantations in Uganda. Ginger SOFRECO is looking for a Team Leader responsible for technical administration of the grant scheme, organization of related training and extension support to tree planters, managing monitoring & reporting of established plantations, and ensuring environmental and social compliance. The project will have a duration of 40 months.
Strategic Planning and Development
Project Design and Planning: Develop comprehensive plans for plantation projects, including site selection, species selection, and resource allocation.
Feasibility Studies: Conduct environmental and economic feasibility studies to assess potential plantation sites and species.
Sustainability Strategy: Formulate strategies for sustainable plantation management, ensuring alignment with environmental regulations and best practices.
Operational Management
Implementation Oversight: Supervise the implementation of plantation activities, ensuring adherence to project plans and timelines.
Resource Management: Manage resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to optimize efficiency and productivity.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address challenges such as pests, diseases, and climate impacts.
Team Leadership and Coordination
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and ensuring team members are effectively utilized.
Training and Capacity Building: Organize and conduct training programs for staff and local communities on plantation management techniques and best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and private sector partners, to ensure project support and collaboration.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Performance Monitoring: Establish monitoring systems to track the progress and performance of plantation projects.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data collected from plantation activities and prepare detailed reports on project outcomes and impacts.
Continuous Improvement: Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve plantation practices and project outcomes.
Environmental and Social Governance
Environmental Compliance: Ensure all plantation activities comply with environmental laws and regulations.
Social Impact Management: Address social impacts by engaging with local communities, respecting land rights, and promoting fair labor practices.
A Master's Degree in forestry or equivalent, with a specialization in forest plantation management and/or forest utilization.
Working experience of 20 years leading multi-disciplinary teams in commercial plantation development and management.
A working knowledge of plantation development and management in tropical geographies and developing economies.
