Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Manager or nominee, the Plant Superintendent will oversee production planning, cost control, quality management, SHERQ compliance, and stakeholder engagement. The role includes responsibility for process optimisation, contractor performance, workforce development, and change initiatives aimed at productivity improvements and cost reduction.

How to Apply

Financial Perspective

  • Contribute to operational, capex, and labour budget planning.

  • Manage approved budgets and report variances with remedial actions.

  • Review and authorise payments in line with policy.

Operational Management

  • Provide input into short- and long-term production planning.

  • Drive process improvements and initiatives to reduce costs and eliminate waste.

  • Manage production processes, contractor performance, and machine availability.

  • Ensure optimisation of process controls and validate process data.

  • Manage quality standards to meet customer requirements.

  • Oversee tailings storage facilities, HDPE piping installations, and plant roadways.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide technical support to relevant stakeholders.

Organisational Growth & People Management

  • Allocate work, supervise staff, and mentor metallurgists-in-training.

  • Manage performance, discipline, grievances, and workplace ethics.

  • Ensure plant competencies and training requirements are maintained.

SHERQ & Compliance

  • Enforce statutory safety regulations, PPE use, and safe practices.

  • Communicate and implement new safety regulations.

  • Ensure legal compliance on all plant machinery.

Change Management

  • Drive initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce costs.

  • Lead functional and departmental change initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree/BTech in Metallurgical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.

  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.

Advantageous:

  • Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 3–4 years’ experience in a mine/plant/production environment.

  • 2–3 years’ management experience.

  • 3–4 years’ working experience in PGM and Chrome Processing Plants.

Competencies:

  • Strong technical and operational knowledge of metallurgical processes.

  • Budgeting, cost control, and reporting skills.

  • Leadership, mentoring, and people management abilities.

  • Problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong knowledge of SHERQ standards, OHS Act, and mine safety regulations.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
