Job Description
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager/Plant Engineer, the technician will execute PM schedules; diagnose and repair faults on woodworking/mechanical equipment; support installation and commissioning of new lines; uphold OSHA-Kenya and site safety standards; participate in reliability initiatives; and maintain accurate maintenance logs, parts inventory, and breakdown reports while collaborating closely with production and engineering teams.

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
Perform scheduled PM on conveyors, saws, presses, kilns/dryers, dust extraction systems, etc.
Diagnose mechanical faults; carry out timely repairs to reduce downtime.
Maintain complete records of maintenance activities and equipment history.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
Respond to breakdowns; troubleshoot malfunctions and execute emergency repairs.
Work with production teams to quickly resolve issues affecting throughput.
Installation & Commissioning
Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery/equipment.
Verify installations meet safety and operational standards.
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to occupational safety & health standards; participate in safety audits.
Implement corrective actions and report hazards promptly.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to reliability/CI initiatives; propose actions to cut failures and energy use.
Documentation & Reporting
Keep equipment logs, maintenance reports, and parts inventory up to date.
Escalate major breakdowns, risks, or anomalies to supervisors.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Plant Engineering/Industrial Maintenance (or related).
3–5 years hands-on mechanical maintenance (manufacturing or wood-processing preferred).
Required: experience with hydraulic & pneumatic systems.
Advantage: familiarity with woodworking machinery (presses, molders, saws, dryers).
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, diagnostics, and PM/CM practices.
Able to read technical drawings/manuals; skilled in welding, machining, basic fabrication.
Safety-minded, detail-oriented, strong problem-solver; good communication & teamwork.
Able to work independently, under pressure, and in a physically demanding environment.
