About the Role

Aga Khan School Uganda is seeking a dynamic and passionate Physical Education Teaching Assistant to support the delivery of high-quality PE instruction across Key Stages 1–4 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This role is ideal for an early-career educator who is committed to nurturing student growth through holistic and inclusive physical education.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Classroom Environment & Culture

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning space that respects diversity and individual capability

  • Maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and safety

  • Monitor student attendance, personal hygiene, and uniform standards

  • Serve as a role model in punctuality, professionalism, and presentation

Teaching & Learning Support

  • Assist in planning and delivering PE lessons aligned with national and international standards

  • Promote critical thinking, creativity, ethics, and teamwork among students

  • Support students in developing a growth mindset and life-long wellness habits

  • Participate in the setting, marking, and review of homework and assessments

  • Use student notebooks and assessments to guide future instruction and provide feedback

  • Collaborate with subject and grade-level colleagues locally and regionally to improve instructional practice

Community & Parent Engagement

  • Attend and actively participate in parent meetings and school events

  • Uphold and promote a positive image of the school within and outside the campus

Professional Growth

  • Engage in continuous professional development through workshops, training, and peer learning

  • Set and pursue personal learning goals in alignment with AKES career development pathways

  • Stay current with modern teaching methods, particularly student-centered approaches

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science or related field

  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience (preferably with international curricula such as IBDP or IGCSE)

  • Familiarity with 21st-century teaching practices and legal educational guidelines

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills

  • Experience working with children across primary and secondary levels

  • Demonstrated commitment to student well-being and academic success

  • Collaborative mindset and openness to learning
