Job Description
Reporting within the Finance Department, the Officer AFS will prepare annual and interim financial statements in line with GRAP standards and the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). The role involves reconciling accounts against the Trial Balance and General Ledger per mSCOA, ensuring accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. The incumbent will coordinate external audits by preparing schedules, responding to queries, and ensuring compliance with audit requirements. Additionally, the Officer AFS will maintain and improve financial reporting systems, prepare statutory returns, and provide financial insights to management for decision-making. The role also requires collaboration with other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial data is captured and reported.

How to Apply
Prepare and analyze financial statements in compliance with GRAP and MFMA.
Reconcile Trial Balance and General Ledger entries as per mSCOA.
Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
Coordinate external audits, including preparing audit schedules and responding to audit queries.
Maintain and enhance financial reporting systems and processes.
Ensure compliance with municipal finance legislation and regulations.
Provide financial analyses to support management decisions.
Collaborate with other departments for accurate financial reporting.
Prepare and submit statutory returns and reports within deadlines.
Education
NQF Level 6 in Accounting/Finance or related field (NQF Level 7+ is an advantage).
Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial reporting or accounting, preferably in municipal/public sector.
Strong background in financial statement preparation and audit coordination.
Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of GRAP and mSCOA.
Proficiency in CaseWare, MS Office, and Excel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Valid driver’s license.
Integrity and commitment to accountability.
