Job Description

The successful candidate will report to the Shift Overseer and will be responsible for overseeing safe and efficient blasting and mining operations. Duties include supervising teams, conducting safety inspections, preparing and charging shot holes, installing temporary and permanent support, and managing hazardous conditions. The Miner will also ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act standards, proper equipment use, accurate reporting, and effective communication across shifts.

How to Apply

  • Supervise blasting and mining activities during the shift.

  • Conduct workplace inspections for gases, ventilation, and safety hazards.

  • Ensure barring, watering down, and installation of temporary and permanent support.

  • Prepare, charge, and blast shot holes according to mine standards.

  • Manage explosives safely, including collection, use, and disposal.

  • Check sockets for misfires and demarcate hazardous geological features.

  • Ensure drilling, bolting, and blasting are executed to required standards.

  • Complete accurate shift communication reports, job cards, and incident reports.

  • Report accidents/incidents immediately and assist in investigations.

  • Oversee housekeeping and ensure tools/equipment are properly stored.

  • Communicate preventative measures and follow-up on corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate.

  • Certificate in Blasting for Scheduled Mines OR National Certificate in Hard Rock Underground.

  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.

Advantageous:

  • Competent A & B Certificate.

  • Blasting Assistant Certificate.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ trackless mining experience.

  • Additional 2 years mining experience (advantageous).

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of blasting, drilling, and underground mining practices.

  • Ability to supervise and lead teams effectively.

  • Safety-conscious with knowledge of Mine Health and Safety regulations.

  • Good communication and reporting skills.

  • Physically fit and medically certified to work underground.
