Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM is an Italian organization engaged in the health sector in Sub-Saharan Africa and it operates in 8 countries (Angola, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Mozambique), where it delivers health programmes and expertise to help bring health services closer to the neediest and suffering.
In partnership with Christian Blind Mission, CUAMM in Uganda is starting a new project in West Nile named: Inclusive emergency initiative to strengthen health services and hygiene practices in refugee and host communities in West Nile, Uganda.
The project, which is funded by the Italian Government has the following results areas; R1: Access to integrated health services and basic health practices have improved among refugees and host communities in Terego district; R2: Hygiene practices of refugees and host communities in Terego district are strengthened, with special attention to women and people with disabilities; R3: Referral services for the most vulnerable groups are strengthened and actors present have the capacity to implement inclusive humanitarian intervention.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently implementing a project “Strengthening District Health Systems for Improved Access to and Utilization of Quality integrated RMNCAH Services in Karamoja”. The Funding for this Project is from the Embassy of Ireland in Uganda. The Actions are spearheaded by CUAMM in Partnership with the Ministry of health (MOH), Uganda Blood transfusion services (UBTS), Mbarara University Center for Simulation, Health professional associations, Moroto Regional referral hospital and the 9 District Local government in Karamoja.
About CUAMM Internship:
Doctors with Africa CUAMM Uganda is excited to announce the phase Il of a Youth Graduate Internship Program aimed at providing valuable training and experience in health, community engagement, and data management. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated young individuals who have graduated within the past 2 years to fill the following internship positions across 9 districts of Karamoja.
Antenatal (Prenatal) Care:
Health Assessments: Conducting regular health assessments, including physical exams and monitoring vital signs.
Prenatal Visits: Scheduling and conducting routine prenatal visits to monitor the health of the mother and baby.
Screening Tests: Performing and interpreting routine screening tests such as blood tests, urine tests, and ultrasounds.
Education and Counseling: Providing education on nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices during pregnancy.
Birth Planning: Assisting in the creation of a birth plan that aligns with the mother's preferences and medical needs.
Intrapartum (Labor and Delivery) Care:
Labor Support: Offering continuous support during labor, including pain management techniques and emotional support.
Monitoring: Monitoring the progress of labor, including the baby's heart rate and the mother's vital signs.
Delivery Assistance: Assisting with the delivery of the baby, ensuring safe and effective delivery practices.
Emergency Care: Identifying and responding to complications or emergencies during labor and delivery, and collaborating with obstetricians if necessary.
Postpartum Care:
Postnatal Visits: Conducting postpartum visits to assess the health of the mother and baby.
Breastfeeding Support: Providing guidance and support for breastfeeding, addressing common challenges.
Recovery Monitoring: Monitoring the mother's physical and emotional recovery after childbirth.
Newborn Care: Offering advice on newborn care, including feeding, bathing, and sleeping.
Gynecological Care:
Routine Exams: Performing routine gynecological exams, including Pap smears and breast exams.
Family Planning: Providing family planning advice and contraceptive counseling.
Reproductive Health Education: Educating women on reproductive health, menstrual health, and menopause.
Health Promotion and Education:
Community Outreach: Participating in community health promotion activities and programs.
Educational Workshops: Conducting workshops and classes on childbirth education, parenting, and women’s health.
Resource Provision: Providing resources and referrals to other healthcare professionals and support services as needed.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
Medical Records: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.
Reporting: Documenting all care provided, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
Compliance: Ensuring that all documentation complies with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.
