Job Description
The medical Coder will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and coding diagnostic and procedural information at AKHS Outreach Centre’s and capture all outpatient medical data for purposes of research, storage and retrieval
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Capture, review, analyze, and code medical diagnostic information as assigned.
- Code and index medical and surgical procedures using ICD-10/11 and OPCS classification systems.
- Analyze medical and mortality data and prepare reports for relevant personnel and authorities, as required.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of coded data in compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standard
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient records and information in accordance with institutional policies and data protection regulations.
- Reconcile and harmonize records based on audit findings and correct identified coding errors.
- Accurately enter data into the health information system and maintain updated morbidity and mortality registers
- File and retrieve patient medical records in accordance with the established procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to clinical, reimbursement, and administrative staff regarding documentation and coding requirements.
- Monitor trends and updates in coding practices and classification systems.
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
