As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a committed and skilled Mechanical Technician to join our team in Tororo.
Job Summary
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for maintaining high equipment availability and ensuring optimal plant efficiency. This includes executing mechanical maintenance activities safely and according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). The role involves inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems to support continuous plant operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards in the work area.
Maintain clean and organized workspaces (housekeeping).
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment such as motors, engines, conveyors, and production machines.
Follow maintenance schedules and technical documentation, including manuals, diagrams, and SOPs.
Inspect and measure worn parts using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to determine repair or replacement needs.
Adjust or align mechanical components using hand tools, levels, and straightedges.
Minimize equipment downtime by effectively communicating maintenance needs and supporting production teams.
Fabricate or repair parts using machine tools as necessary.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns or mechanical emergencies to ensure minimal disruption.
Optimize use of tools and maintenance supplies to support cost-effective operations.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and generate regular reports on trends and issues.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Experience:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related technical certification.
2–4 years of hands-on experience in a process plant or heavy industrial environment.
Technical Competencies:
Basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Understanding of fabrication processes and reading technical drawings.
Knowledge of safety practices and mechanical maintenance procedures.
Proficient in using basic measurement and hand tools.
English literacy and basic computer skills.
Personal Attributes:
Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Team player with effective communication skills.
Reliable, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure.
Physically fit and willing to work long or flexible hours when required.
Committed to safety and results-driven.
