The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited is a limited liability company fully owned by the Government of Uganda. It was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both enacted in 2013, and incorporated under the Companies Act, 2012.
UNOC is mandated to manage the State’s commercial interests in Uganda’s oil and gas sector, ensuring sustainable exploitation of petroleum resources.

JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineering Lead (1 Vacancy)
REPORTS TO: Manager Technical Services
Job Purpose:
To provide expert technical guidance and oversight on all aspects of mechanical engineering design and implementation for UNOC projects. The Mechanical Engineering Lead will serve as the subject matter expert, ensuring that mechanical systems are designed, installed, and maintained in accordance with industry and project standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical engineering design and execution for all UNOC projects.
Review and approve mechanical aspects of project documentation, including designs, specifications, and installation procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes.
Provide expert input into budgeting, procurement, and modifications related to mechanical engineering.
Coordinate key activities such as site surveys, permitting, material selection, and testing for mechanical systems.
Perform quality assurance, compliance checks, and inter-discipline reviews on engineering designs and operations.
Develop and maintain a prioritization matrix for scheduling and executing mechanical maintenance activities to ensure continuous operations.
Monitor contractor performance and recommend corrective actions to mitigate delays and design deficiencies.
Contribute to Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and conceptual studies related to mechanical systems.
Support construction and commissioning teams in resolving technical queries and overseeing equipment installation and testing.
Ensure strict adherence to Health, Safety, Security, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) protocols in design and execution phases.
Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for contractors to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
Collaborate with other discipline leads to execute inspection test plans, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and site installations.
Recommend training and development plans to enhance internal mechanical engineering capabilities.
Maintain proper documentation and provide technical reports as required.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive & Power Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering from a recognized institution.
Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and project supervision, with at least three (3) years at a supervisory or team lead level in the petroleum, manufacturing, or construction industry.
Registered Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and a valid practicing license.
Professional certification or training in Project Management (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2) is an added advantage.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus).

Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering standards and oil & gas industry technical standards.
