The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited is a limited liability company fully owned by the Government of Uganda. It was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both enacted in 2013, and incorporated under the Companies Act, 2012.

Job Purpose:

To provide day-to-day technical supervision and administrative support for ongoing mechanical engineering projects. The role ensures that all mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved plans, industry standards, and within a safe working environment aligned with Oil & Gas QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security & Environment) requirements.

How to Apply

  • Collaborate with Project Engineers to ensure project objectives and performance targets are safely and effectively achieved.

  • Define the scope of work for mechanical components of projects, prepare mechanical drawings based on design criteria, and develop bills of quantities and cost estimates to support feasibility and procurement processes.

  • Conduct risk assessments specific to mechanical works and implement appropriate mitigation strategies during project execution.

  • Prepare and manage necessary documentation such as job assessments, work permits, timesheets, and progress reports.

  • Review and verify project documentation and drawings prior to site deployment to ensure clarity and compliance.

  • Identify deviations or scope changes during project implementation, investigate root causes, and propose effective engineering solutions.

  • Conduct pre-installation site walk-throughs and prepare detailed installation plans.

  • Track and document approved changes, including updates to “as-built” drawings, in consultation with the Mechanical Engineering Lead.

  • Supervise mechanical construction activities on-site to ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery of works.

  • Participate in site inspections and address non-conformities in line with technical quality and safety standards.

  • Assess the condition of mechanical infrastructure and support the development of preventative and corrective maintenance plans.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive & Power Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering from a recognised institution.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience in the petroleum, manufacturing, or construction industry in a reputable and busy organisation.

  • Registered Engineer with a valid practicing license from the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).

  • Proven experience in the design and supervision of mechanical works.

  • Specialized training in Project Planning and Management is an added advantage.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong project planning and execution skills.

  • Knowledge and application of mechanical engineering standards.

  • Expertise in mechanical design, drafting, and supervision.

  • Familiarity with Oil & Gas technical standards and value chain.

  • Ability to prepare scopes of work, mechanical drawings, and bills of quantities.

  • Strong understanding and application of QHSSE standards.

  • Excellent coordination, teamwork, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and technical plans accurately.
