Job Description
Position: MEAL Volunteer
Organization: Health Access Connect
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Reports To: Research, Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator
Employment Type: Volunteer (Full-time, 40 hrs/week)
Compensation: UGX 500,000/month; field travel expenses covered
Role Summary
The MEAL Volunteer will support the design, implementation, and oversight of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems across HAC’s programs. This includes working with government health offices, facility staff, and community health workers to ensure data quality, accurate reporting, and continuous learning and improvement.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with program teams to implement effective M&E plans and strategies.
Support development and deployment of monitoring tools and systems.
Ensure timely and accurate data entry into HMIS/DHIS2 and internal dashboards.
Conduct routine data quality assessments and facilitate feedback sessions.
Maintain robust databases and generate reports for internal learning and donor reporting.
Assist in analysis and interpretation of data for decision-making.
Support capacity-building of health workers and community teams in M&E best practices.
Ensure ethical standards and IRB compliance in all evaluation activities.
Assist in developing and executing surveys (e.g., client satisfaction, feedback).
Update dashboards and contribute to project documentation.
Follow and promote safeguarding protocols within HAC programs.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Economics, Statistics, Quantitative Economics, or related field.
3–4 years of M&E experience in health-focused NGOs, preferably in rural Uganda.
Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience in data collection and analysis tools: Kobo Toolbox, Power BI, SPSS, Google Sheets, Looker Studio.
Valid experience working with HMIS tools and DHIS2 systems.
Certificate or postgraduate diploma in M&E is an added advantage.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with ethical guidelines for research and data management.
Preferred:
Experience in managing M&E for outreach programs in remote areas.
Skills in content writing, storytelling, and visual data presentation.
Working knowledge of Odoo ERP systems.
Strong facilitation, public relations, and training skills.
Familiarity with Google Maps and GPS-based reporting tools.
Ability and willingness to travel to rural program sites.
Additional Information
This is a volunteer role offering hands-on experience in a mission-driven organization.
Volunteers work 40 hours per week.
Monthly stipend: UGX 500,000.
All official field travel costs are covered by Health Access Connect.
