Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Merchandising and Promotions, the Marketplace Promotions Buyer will play a critical role in building and executing promotional strategies across the platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for negotiating promotional offers with marketplace sellers, developing product assortments for promotions, managing inventory for deal lines, and ensuring strategic alignment across teams. The role also requires close collaboration with sellers, divisions, marketing, and customer service teams to optimize promotional processes and resolve related issues. The ideal candidate will bring strong negotiation skills, industry experience, and a passion for retail to enhance customer engagement and sales growth.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Negotiate promotional offers with marketplace sellers.

  • Build and manage the promotions/deals pipeline with the correct product mix.

  • Drive customer awareness of seller listings through deals and promotions.

  • Manage inventory availability for promotional and deal lines.

  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing marketplace sellers.

  • Assess and monitor local and international industry and market trends.

  • Contribute to the improvement and optimization of promotions and deals processes.

  • Plan and execute joint marketing activities with sellers.

  • Work with divisions and the marketplace team to ensure strategic alignment.

  • Collaborate with Customer Service to resolve promotion-related queries.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Tertiary qualification required.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Buying, Business Development, or Sales within retail/e-commerce or a related industry.

  • Proven track record in negotiations and sourcing.

  • Competence in Excel for data analysis.

  • Strong prioritization, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Existing industry networks will be an advantage.

  • Ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.

  • Strong negotiator with a merchant mindset.

  • Creativity and willingness to innovate/take calculated risks.

  • Passionate about retail and achieving set goals.
