Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25% stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing financial commercial lending institutions.

Job Description
Job Title: Manager Trade Finance Sales (1 Position)
Organisation: DFCU Bank
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Head Transactional Banking & Specialized Finance
Reporting to the Head of Transaction Banking & Specialized Finance, the role holder will be accountable for originating, and structuring trade finance deals, developing trade finance products and driving the Trade Finance strategy to grow the Bank’s Trade Finance portfolio in line with the Bank’s set financial and business targets. The role holder is responsible for maximizing the Bank’s trade revenue through the development of innovative solutions and driving trade sales targeted for Bank clients through;
Winning new clients, expanding existing relationships and protecting current business flow.
Ensuring trade income streams are sustainable.
Product innovation and pricing
Training and support of the other business teams to understand trade finance across the bank to drive sales.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a trade finance strategy that will attract customers in line with the organizational objectives.
Create and share innovative solutions for Trade finance.
Understand the dynamics of trade to assess market trends, and identify new business opportunities or competitive threats in the region and country. Devise strategies to capture opportunities and grow revenues
Develop value propositions that will drive product cross-selling and increase revenues.
Provide leadership and support to the business and risk teams on our working capital offering.
Conduct workshops with industry associations to sell, market and promote trade business.
Identifying and evaluating potential revenue opportunities in new and diverse markets to grow our income.
Ensure adequate pricing of Trade products on a revenue/expense basis and ensure full collection of fees and commissions to grow Trade non-interest income.
Provide transformational leadership of the Trade teams within the Organization.
Develop alternative delivery channels for product delivery and assist the business with marketing initiative and coordination.
Ensure that controls are built into the product delivery process and adhere to guidelines set by internal/external regulators.
Ensure effective product knowledge through training of the teams to drive sales growth and revenue, improved risk environment.
Ensure Credit Policy and process review for continuous improvement of the Trade Finance business.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
A minimum of a first degree from a recognized University with at least 5 years of Banking experience of which 3 years should be in Trade Finance, relationship management and sales.
Skills for originating, structuring and executing structured trade finance
Experience in trade sales using various Trade products.
Ability to quickly understand customers’ trade activities and propose tailored financial structures aimed at maximizing trade opportunities.
Possession of good credit skills
Good Trade Finance Product knowledge and detailed knowledge of legal, risks, Controls, UCP, URC and URR rules plus local regulatory requirements.
Comprehensive knowledge of Trade Documentation and products.
All round banking knowledge with a good understanding of Credit Control Principles.
A clear understanding of Operational risk, Money Laundering and KYC Policy.
Strong people management and leadership skills
Good relationship management / Sales skills.
Outgoing, self-motivated, assertive and proactive
A good team player able to work under minimum supervision- Self-drive and initiative
Excellent communication and engagement skills
Strong attention to detail and personal effectiveness
High level of integrity and strong entrepreneurial skills
Sharp, self-confident and performance-driven
Self-starter
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to supervise and coach staff.
