Job Description
MOGO Uganda is seeking a competent and detail-oriented Legal Officer to support the company’s legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. The role involves providing legal advice, ensuring compliance with Ugandan laws and regulations, managing contracts, supporting debt recovery processes, and mitigating legal risks associated with the company’s operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Compliance
Provide legal advice to management and operational teams on company activities
Ensure compliance with Ugandan laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, including financial and consumer protection laws
Interpret laws, regulations, and contractual obligations affecting the company’s operations
Support implementation of internal policies and legal procedures
Contracts & Documentation
Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, and legal documents
Ensure proper execution, filing, and safekeeping of legal documents
Review loan agreements, security documents, guarantees, and related documentation
Litigation & Debt Recovery
Coordinate and manage external lawyers and legal service providers
Support litigation processes, court appearances, and dispute resolution
Handle debt recovery matters, repossessions, and enforcement actions in line with the law
Prepare legal briefs, opinions, and case summaries
Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with regulators, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders
Support licensing, registrations, and regulatory filings
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise management accordingly
Risk Management & Reporting
Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation measures
Maintain legal registers and compliance reports
Prepare periodic legal and compliance reports for management
