About the Organisation
Bugema University is a private, co-educational institution of higher learning located in Kalagala, Luweero District, Uganda, approximately 33 kilometers northeast of Kampala. Established in 1948 as the Bugema Missionary Training School to train teachers and pastors for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Africa, it evolved into Bugema Missionary College and later Bugema Adventist College.
In 1994, it attained university status, and in 1997, it was licensed by the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports to operate as a university. Affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Bugema University is part of the global Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second-largest Christian school system.
The university offers a diverse range of academic programs across various disciplines, including Business Administration, Education, Theology and Religious Studies, Science and Technology, Agriculture and Applied Sciences, Health and Allied Sciences, and Social Sciences.
It provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, some in collaboration with international institutions like the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (Kenya), and Central Luzon State University (Philippines). Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering lectures, supervising student research and clinical training, and contributing to curriculum development within the Midwifery Department. The Lecturer will support both theoretical and practical components of midwifery education and be expected to uphold the university’s academic and ethical standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality lectures and tutorials in midwifery and related fields.
Supervise student projects, clinical practice, and internships.
Participate in curriculum review, development, and academic planning.
Engage in academic research and publish in reputable journals.
Provide mentorship and guidance to students.
Participate in departmental meetings and university events.
Ensure alignment of teaching practices with national health training standards.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery or a Diploma in Midwifery.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Education is an added advantage.
Demonstrated teaching experience in a recognized institution is preferred.
Must be registered and licensed with the relevant professional body.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning.
