Job Description
The Program Officer is a pivotal instructional leader responsible for accelerating fellow teacher effectiveness and student learning outcomes. This role involves observing teaching, diagnosing root causes of learning gaps, and delivering structured coaching cycles that balance support with accountability. The Program Officer drives measurable improvement in classroom practices and educational results by providing evidence-based feedback and personalized development plans.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Performance Objectives
- Fellow Coaching and Development (30%)
- Observe Fellows’ classroom teaching and provide clear, actionable feedback.
- Conduct regular one-on-one coaching conversations.
- Support Fellows to set and achieve professional growth goals.
- Address performance challenges through structured improvement plans.
- Hold difficult conversations with fellows while maintaining trust and motivation.
- Track fellow growth over time to assess impact and adapt coaching approaches.
Program Implementation (30%)
- Collaborate with design teams to align coaching efforts with organizational goals.
- Participate in simulations, case studies, and training to continuously enhance coaching skills.
- Contribute to the development of coaching tools and resources that support fellow effectiveness.
- Coordinate school visits and monitor program activities.
- Track fellow attendance, performance, and progress.
- Ensure deadlines, reporting, and program expectations are met.
- Document field insights and support program improvement.
- Build and maintain relationships with headteachers and school staff
- Address school concerns and resolve issues professionally
- Represent Teach For Uganda as and when required for school and district events
Training and Facilitation (10%)
- Facilitate workshops and professional development sessions
- Support Fellows to translate training into classroom practice
- Lead reflection and learning sessions.
- Design fellow trainings
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MERL) (15%)
- Collect and submit accurate field data (attendance, observations, learner progress)
- Conduct classroom observation scoring using program tools
- Support administration of surveys, assessments, and monitoring activities
- Validate and verify information reported by Fellows and schools
- Document field insights, challenges, and success stories
- Participate in reflection meetings and contribute evidence to improve program design
Data use and Continuous Improvement (5%)
- Use student learning and observation data to guide coaching decisions.
- Identify trends and flag emerging risks early.
- Work with the MEAL team to strengthen program quality and responsiveness.
