Position Summary
MUWRP is seeking a dedicated and skilled Laboratory Technologist to join its team at the HIV Laboratory Hub in Luwero General Hospital. The primary role is to support routine laboratory hub operations, including processing of referred samples, ensuring accurate testing, timely result reporting, and maintaining high-quality standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of HIV-related diagnostic procedures, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) practices, laboratory safety, and be able to quickly adapt to new techniques and technologies introduced into the lab environment.

How to Apply
Perform phlebotomy and guide patients on proper sample collection (e.g., sputum, urine, stool).
Accurately document all collected and received samples in both physical and electronic registers.
Conduct daily QA/QC procedures and maintain laboratory equipment per SOPs and quality guidelines.
Maintain up-to-date documentation on equipment validation, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
Implement and adhere to Laboratory Quality Management Systems (LQMS) to ensure reliable results.
Proficiently perform laboratory tests as per the facility’s test menu, including:
General microscopy (malaria, hemoparasites, urine, stool, ZN smears)
Automated diagnostics (blood chemistry, hematology, CD4 count)
GeneXpert testing (TB, HPV, EID, Viral Load POC)
HIV-related diagnostics (CrAg, TB LAM, rapid testing)
Blood grouping and compatibility testing for transfusion
Promptly communicate urgent or critical lab findings to clinical and supervisory teams.
Accurately record and release laboratory results in a timely manner across required systems and formats.
Perform External Quality Assurance (EQA) procedures and follow up on corrective actions where needed.
Monitor and manage laboratory stock levels to prevent supply interruptions; coordinate with Lab Manager for timely replenishment.
Adhere to and promote strict laboratory safety protocols.
Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory data and results.
Carry out other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or a related field from a recognized institution.
Must be licensed by the Allied Health Professionals Council.
At least 2 years of experience working in a busy diagnostic laboratory.
Prior training or experience in any of the relevant lab techniques mentioned will be an added advantage.
Personal Attributes & Physical Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lift laboratory supplies and assist with logistics within hospital premises.
Must be willing and able to permanently reside in Luwero or Nakasongola.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently to MUWRP-supported PEPFAR sites within Luwero and Nakasongola.
