Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in testing and reporting to the Quality Engineer. This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining quality assurance for all products and systems in place.
The technician will also support internal and external customers through New Product Development (NPD), innovative customer solutions, and technical support.
The job holder will report directly to the Quality Control Engineer, ensuring product quality through effective execution of the company’s quality control policies and procedures, while maintaining compliance with set standards.
Scope of the Role Includes:
a. Sample Testing and Preparation
b. Health & Safety Compliance
c. Maintenance of Testing Equipment
d. Cross-checking Equipment Accuracy / LQTS
e. Result Documentation and Report Writing
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Accurately document results and observations, maintaining proper paperwork or computer records
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and housekeeping standards
Conduct sample preparation, physical testing, and other analyses as per applicable standards
Monitor and communicate quality concerns affecting product performance
Carry out primary and mechanical tests on cement specimens (including competitor products)
Ensure availability of consumables in both the physical and material lab
Monitor sample storage and routinely dispose of unnecessary samples
Monitor and maintain curing tank water levels
Prepare technical reports and literature
Run Lab Quality Technical Standards (LQTS) to verify equipment accuracy using reference standards
Record humidity and temperature data daily for curing room tanks and testing cabinets
Ensure testing equipment is properly serviced and maintained
Actively promote and adhere to workplace safety policies, leading by example
Perform fieldwork as needed
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Educational Requirements
Minimum of a Diploma in:
Material Engineering
Chemistry
Laboratory Science Technology (Chemistry/Physical)
Or a related course
Knowledge of concrete and cement testing procedures is an added advantage
Minimum 1 year of experience in the construction/building materials industry or related field
Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience
Knowledge in quality control and assurance
Proficiency in MS Office applications
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
Profile & Personal Qualities
Self-driven and results-oriented
Able to plan and prioritize effectively
Comfortable dealing with people; a good listener
Reliable, determined, and tolerant
Willing to work extended hours when necessary
Strong verbal communication skills
Flexible to work anywhere within Uganda (an added advantage)
