We recognise that sustainable change begins with credible evidence, and we work to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice through high-quality studies, capacity strengthening, and strategic partnerships that drive measurable impact. Introduction AfriChild is planning to implement Kulea Watoto 2.0 an intervention that combines ECD and livelihood programming to achieve child wellbeing outcomes in two refugee settings in Uganda. It will be implemented by a consortium of 5 organisations; The AfriChild Centre, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Madrasa Early Childhood Education Programme, Kabarole Research/Resource Centre (KRC) and Literacy Adult and Basic Education (LABE). Kulea Watoto 2.0 builds on the strong foundations of Kulea Watoto 1.0 whose overall aim was to improve access to quality early childhood care and development for children aged 5 and under in refugee and host communities in Uganda. Through an integrated package of responsive caregiving, early learning, livelihoods strengthening, and policy engagement, the project demonstrated that whole-family interventions can significantly shift child development outcomes, even in diverse and highly fragile contexts. The proposed project – Kulea Watoto 2- seeks to refine the model and deepen the impact in two refugee contexts (Yumbe and Kampala). Objectives of the Project The overall objective of Kulea Watoto 2.0 is to improve child wellbeing through expanded access to quality Early Childhood Care and Development for children aged 0-5 years among refugee and host communities in Kampala and Yumbe.
