  • Vehicle Operation: Operate commercial trucks to transport goods and materials over long distances or local routes, following specified routes and schedules.

  • Loading and Unloading: Load and unload cargo using appropriate equipment and techniques, ensuring that goods are properly secured and that weight distribution is balanced.

  • Pre-Trip Inspection: Conduct pre-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to check for mechanical issues, ensure all equipment is in working order, and verify that cargo is properly secured.

  • Route Planning: Plan travel routes using maps or GPS devices to determine the most efficient and safe way to reach destinations, considering factors such as traffic, road conditions, and weather.

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations governing commercial trucking, including hours-of-service regulations, weight limits, and safety standards.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times. Complete required paperwork such as bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports.

  • Safety Procedures: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to cargo. Follow defensive driving techniques and maintain a safe driving distance from other vehicles.

  • Customer Relations: Interact professionally with customers, vendors, and other personnel during pickup and delivery operations, providing excellent customer service and representing the company positively.

  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations such as accidents, breakdowns, or hazardous road conditions, following established procedures and seeking assistance when needed.

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance checks and minor repairs on the truck and trailer, such as checking fluid levels, changing tires, and replacing bulbs, to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.

  • Time Management: Manage driving hours and rest periods effectively to comply with hours-of-service regulations and meet delivery deadlines without compromising safety.

  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices through ongoing training and professional development activities.

  • Driver's License: A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) appropriate for the type of truck being driven (e.g., Class A, B, or C license).

  • Driving Experience: Previous experience as a truck driver is often required, although some companies may hire and train inexperienced drivers.

  • Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major traffic violations, accidents, or DUI convictions.

  • Physical Fitness: Good physical health and stamina are essential for long hours of driving and manual labor associated with loading and unloading goods.

  • Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing commercial trucking, including hours-of-service regulations, weight limits, and traffic laws.

  • Safety Awareness: Strong awareness of safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle and the protection of oneself and others on the road.

  • Customer Service Skills: Basic customer service skills to interact with clients, vendors, and other personnel in a professional manner.

  • Map Reading and Navigation: Basic navigational skills and the ability to read maps or use GPS devices to plan routes and navigate efficiently.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Some knowledge of truck mechanics and the ability to perform basic maintenance checks and minor repairs on the vehicle.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to communicate with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and other drivers using two-way radios or communication devices.
