Job Description
The Head of Security will manage all security operations across the conservancy, including strategic planning, risk assessment, intelligence gathering, and staff oversight. The role requires developing and enforcing comprehensive security policies, leading incident responses, collaborating with local law enforcement and communities, and ensuring the safety of wildlife and people. The position also involves budget management, performance monitoring of security personnel and third-party contractors, and integration of technology-driven surveillance solutions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep commitment to conservation values, leadership in crisis management, and capacity to navigate complex security landscapes with integrity and foresight.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement security strategies aligned with the conservancy's strategic plan
Manage and supervise all security operations, staff, and contractors
Conduct regular risk assessments and implement mitigation measures
Establish a reliable intelligence system to track and respond to threats
Ensure protection of wildlife, staff, visitors, and property
Lead emergency and incident responses, including poaching and natural disasters
Oversee installation and maintenance of security technologies (CCTV, drones, alarms, etc.)
Train staff on safety protocols and emergency response plans
Collaborate with communities, law enforcement, and neighboring conservancies
Prepare regular security reports and manage the security budget effectively

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Security Management, Environmental Science, or related field
Postgraduate education in risk management, business administration, or related disciplines preferred
Professional certification in security or wildlife/conservancy management is an added advantage
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in security management, preferably in conservation settings
Experience managing internal and external security stakeholders
Strong leadership, crisis management, and decision-making abilities
Proficiency in community engagement and conflict resolution
In-depth knowledge of environmental laws, security protocols, and emerging surveillance technologies
Excellent communication, project management, and financial management skills
