Job Description
The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, cultivating strategic donor partnerships, and leading fundraising campaigns and proposal development to secure sustainable funding for the Foundation’s initiatives. The role involves coordinating with internal program teams, external partners, and global donors to develop compelling proposals and steward relationships. The individual will oversee grant writing, manage donor reporting, ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, and lead intelligence gathering to inform future funding strategies. Additionally, the role will guide capacity building in resource mobilization, support program units in developing funding pitches, oversee donor engagement activities, and provide leadership to the fundraising function to achieve annual fundraising targets.

Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising and resource-mobilization strategies
Identify funding opportunities and cultivate relationships with donors, corporates, foundations, and partners
Lead development of proposals, concept notes, pitches, and major funding applications
Oversee fundraising campaigns and donor engagement events
Coordinate grant writing and ensure alignment of proposals with program objectives
Maintain a donor intelligence and opportunity pipeline database
Ensure compliance with donor requirements, reporting standards, and internal policies
Monitor fundraising performance, trends, and KPIs, and prepare timely reports
Foster partner relationships and represent the Foundation in strategic events and forums
Build capacity of teams and country units in resource mobilization, proposal development, and donor engagement
Collaborate with advocacy, communications, and program teams to drive donor interest
Manage donor stewardship processes and maintain strong funding relationships
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Required)
Professional qualification in fundraising/resource mobilization/program implementation (Added Advantage)
Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Social Sciences, Project Management, or related field (Added Advantage)
Experience
Minimum 8 years’ experience in donor fundraising/resource mobilization
Proven track record of raising at least KES 1 Billion annually (minimum 3 years)
8 years’ experience developing proposals, concept notes and idea notes
5 years’ experience in program development
4 years’ experience in partnership management
Experience in monitoring & evaluation and research (Desirable)
Skills & Competencies
Strong donor engagement and relationship-management skills
Advanced proposal and grant writing expertise
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strategic planning and fundraising campaign leadership
Stakeholder engagement and networking ability
Excellent project management and report writing skills
High level of professionalism, financial discipline, and ethical conduct
Strong analytical, research, and fundraising data management skills
