Position Summary:

The Head of Credit is a senior leadership position within MADFA SACCO, responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of all credit-related operations. The role ensures effective credit risk management, product innovation, portfolio quality, and regulatory compliance.

The Head of Credit leads and supervises the Credit Manager, Portfolio Manager, Recovery Officer, Credit Analyst, and Branch Managers to achieve optimal loan portfolio performance and sustainable credit growth.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Microfinance, Finance & Accounting, Statistics, or a related discipline.

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in microfinance, retail banking, or commercial banking, with at least 3 years in a senior-level credit or portfolio management role.

  • Demonstrated experience in Credit Risk Management, Credit Product Development, or Regional Credit Supervision.

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field and prior experience in senior credit risk oversight will be a strong advantage.


Key Competencies:

  • Strategic thinking and ability to execute long-term credit and portfolio goals.

  • In-depth understanding of credit risk assessment, monitoring, and recovery strategies.

  • Familiarity with Bank of Uganda regulatory requirements and financial cooperative frameworks.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • A results-driven mindset with a commitment to financial inclusion and member empowerment.
