Job Opportunity: Graduate Trainee Statistician

General Summary
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is seeking a highly motivated Graduate Trainee Statistician to join its Statistics Unit within the Research Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to build hands-on experience in data analysis, mathematical modelling, database design, and health research interpretation.
The role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, data scientists, and health partners to generate actionable insights that inform health policies and improve decision-making at both national and subnational levels.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Apply statistical and mathematical methods to analyze clinical and health research data.
Contribute to the development of study protocols, indicators, data analysis plans, and data collection tools.
Conduct robust and reproducible data analyses using tools such as R, Python, or other relevant software.
Create clear visualizations and effectively communicate insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Prepare technical reports, research manuscripts, and presentation materials.
Support REDCap database development and management, including training, data quality control (QA/QC), and resolving data queries for routine reporting.
Ensure adherence to ethical standards, data quality, and confidentiality in all work.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics from a chartered university.
Must be a recent graduate (within the last 12 months) or awaiting graduation.
Achieved a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
Person Specification
Strong foundation in statistical and mathematical principles.
Proficiency in statistical programming tools (e.g., R, Python).
Ability to translate complex findings into meaningful policy or operational recommendations.
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
Detail-oriented, self-driven, and eager to learn in a dynamic research environment.
