Job Description
The GIS Officer will support the Protection Project by providing technical expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, mapping, and data management for programs related to protection services, cash assistance, and shelter interventions.
The position will support program teams in mapping beneficiary locations, service coverage, vulnerability hotspots, and project activities, enabling better planning, monitoring, and decision-making. Working closely with the MEAL, Protection, Cash, and Shelter teams, the GIS Officer will ensure that spatial data is collected, analyzed, and visualized to support evidence-based programming, program targeting, and reporting.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
GIS Mapping and Spatial Analysis
- Develop and produce GIS maps and spatial visualizations to support Protection, Cash, and Shelter programming.
- Map project locations, service delivery points, and beneficiary coverage across refugee settlements and host communities.
- Conduct spatial analysis to identify vulnerability hotspots and service gaps.
- Support mapping of cash distribution points, shelter construction locations, and protection service centers.
- Ensure accurate geospatial data collection and validation for project activities.
Data Management and Analysis
- Support the design and management of geospatial databases for project data.
- Clean, analyze, and visualize spatial data for program monitoring and reporting.
- Integrate GIS data with program monitoring data to support analysis and decision-making.
- Support data analysis for targeting, beneficiary selection, and service coverage assessment.
- Maintain updated spatial datasets related to population distribution, infrastructure, and services.
Support Program Planning and Monitoring
- Work with program teams to support evidence-based planning and targeting protection, cash, and shelter interventions.
- Support Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) mapping for cash assistance programs.
- Map shelter construction progress and infrastructure development.
- Provide GIS support for needs assessments, baseline surveys, and evaluations.
- Support development of dashboards and visual data products for program monitoring.
Information Visualization and Reporting
- Develop maps, infographics, and visual reports for internal and external reporting
- Support program teams in producing GIS-based visualizations for donor reports and presentations.
- Ensure GIS outputs are clear, accurate, and accessible to program teams.
- Support preparation of technical reports and spatial analysis briefs.
Coordination and Collaboration
- Work closely with MEAL, Protection, Cash, and Shelter teams to ensure spatial data supports program implementation.
- Support coordination with government agencies, UN partners, and humanitarian actors on GIS data and mapping.
- Participate in information management and GIS coordination meetings at settlement or district level.
- Support training of program staff on basic GIS tools and spatial data collection.
