Girl Champions job at Restless Development

Restless Development

Job Description

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Restless Development is a global non-profit agency. We support the collective power of young leaders to create a better world. We are independently registered and governed in nine countries (India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe) bound together by our vision for youth power. We run youth-led programmes to tackle the issues that young people care about the most – We also run the Youth Collective – a growing network of over 4000 local youth civil society groups and organisations in 185 countries. We are committed to creating an agency that walks the talk on power shifting, using the power shifting checklist, both internally and externally.

Our approach to safeguarding
Restless Development considers the welfare and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults to be an organisational imperative with primacy over the success of programmes or strategic objectives. We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we expect all of our staff, volunteers and partners to ensure we protect the communities in which we operate from harm and abide by our Safeguarding Policy.

About Global Girls Creating Change Project (G2C2)
In partnership with Hivos, Restless Development is implementing the Global Girls Creating Change (G2C2) project in Uganda and Nepal. In Uganda, we are working in the districts of Jinja, Mayuge, Moroto, Napak and Jinja City. The goal of the G2C2 is to foster and elevate a diverse movement of girl-centered climate action to lead, shape, and inform equitable, inclusive climate policies and actions. This is informed by an intersectional climate justice approach, with girls in all their diversity, and in particular girls from marginalized groups disproportionately affected by climate change, at the centre. The programme intends to target diverse young people aged 18 – 30 years, in rural and urban settings, with different education backgrounds, and consider gender-related issues. We are looking for dynamic, committed, passionate and diverse girls to join the G2C2 programme as GIRL CHAMPIONS.

Overall G2C2 Project Objective
In partnership with Hivos, Restless Development is implementing the Global Girls Creating Change (G2C2) project in Uganda and Nepal. In Uganda, we are working in the districts of Jinja, Mayuge, Moroto, Napak and Jinja City. Climate change affects everyone but the impact is felt more by girls from poor, and vulnerable communities. This is even worse for girls from diverse backgrounds for example; girls with disabilities, girls living with HIV/AIDs, young mothers, school drop outs among others.

Overall G2C2 Project Objective
To foster and elevate a diverse movement of girl-centred climate action to lead, shape, and inform equitable, inclusive climate policies and actions. Restless Development in partnership with Hivos as the lead agency will implement the project.

To achieve this, activities include girl-led evidence-building, training and skills development including on technical, STEM and career skills, mentoring, and community dialogues about gender norms.

Activities to achieve this include developing girl-led advocacy plans, operationalizing them in national networks, platforms and dialogues, media engagement, and supporting a diverse cohort of girls to engage at regional and international levels.

• Provide grants, training and other support for girls to create and lead climate innovations and enterprises in their communities. This will be achieved through participatory co-creation processes, pitching for innovation grants, and complementary resources, tools and support.
About the role
