Gender and Social Officer job at Farm Africa

Job Description

The Gender and Social Officer will be responsible for implementing Farm Africa’s gender strategy within the AGRA project framework. This includes conducting gender analyses, designing inclusive project activities, building capacity among local stakeholders, and supporting equitable farmer group structures. The Officer will work closely with the Project Coordinator and partners to ensure all aspects of gender and social inclusion are integrated into project design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. They will also engage with stakeholders, support MEL efforts, and contribute to proposal development and reporting as needed.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and integration of gender and social inclusion strategies into the AGRA project.

  • Conduct gender analyses, needs assessments, and community consultations.

  • Design and implement inclusive project activities using methodologies like GALS.

  • Build capacity of farmer organizations to become gender-inclusive.

  • Lead male engagement and promote gender-equitable household relations.

  • Train project staff and partners on gender and social inclusion.

  • Monitor gender integration progress and ensure alignment with donor guidelines.

  • Support M&E efforts and contribute to narrative reports and donor visits.

  • Participate in coordination meetings and represent Farm Africa in relevant forums.

  • Contribute to proposal writing and identification of project expansion opportunities.

  • Manage project logistics, budgets, and ensure compliance with financial procedures.

  • Provide administrative and technical support to project and country-level teams.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, social sciences, development studies, or a related field.

  • At least 2 years of experience in gender-focused roles within INGOs or agri-business.

  • Proven experience working with female smallholder farmers and rural households.

  • Experience building capacities of farmer organizations and supporting women empowerment.

  • Strong knowledge of gender mainstreaming and community engagement.

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Honesty, integrity, and a valid motorcycle riding permit.


Desirable:

  • Advanced qualification in gender studies, development, or related fields.

  • Experience using GALS or SAA methodologies.

  • Experience in Eastern Uganda context.

  • Background in donor reporting and proposal development.

  • Knowledge of agricultural value chains and rural development dynamics.
